On Thursday 24 May 2012 we gave an illustrated talk to the children in
Mrs Marshall’s class at
Lisa read extracts from Edie’s diaries and Dick filled in the background
of his great aunt Edie who served as a nursing sister with Queen
Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service in France and Belgium
throughout the Great War. The
response from the children was amazing!
So many of them had things to tell about their grandparents’
involvement in the Second World War and some told of relatives who had
fought and died in World War One.
We very much enjoyed giving the talk to such a responsive group of
children and we would like to thank the school head, Mrs Eggleton, and
the class teacher, Mrs
Marshall, for the warm welcome.
Here below are some photos showing the children with Lisa, dressed as a
nurse, and Dick.

Message to all the children in Mrs Marshall's class We thought it was astonishing how many of you had your own personal stories about members of your family who had taken part in the Second World War (1939-45). Some of you even knew of relatives who had served in the First World War (also known as The Great War, 1914-18) including some who had died in that conflict. If you would like to send that information to us, through Mrs Marshall, we would be happy to add it to this page. We were telling you last week about the diaries of Edith Apppleton, a nursing Sister, and the voices of women in those wars are very rare. So we would be very interested to hear as well of any female members of your families who played a part in those wars. We look forward to hearing from you. Dick and Lisa Robinson
